I have worked with many first responders; police, paramedics, fire fighters, hospital workers and their partners/families. I have come to understand the nature of these professions and the reality that many experience both direct and vicarious trauma on a regular basis. Many police have a hard time reaching out for help, as there remains a stigma in mental health. I have heard many police share that they would not want their colleagues to know they were struggling and need to appear strong and in control. Police rely on each other for support and protection in dangerous situations. Police are often not comfortable showing vulnerability. I have great respect for police and the work they do to support our communities. I specialize in trauma therapy to support first responders to continue to do their work and have a healthy family life.
